After Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid announced their amicable split to the world, cryptic Instagram posts from their families were the only real insight into what actually happened.
A week on, though, a source at Closer magazine (massive pinch of salt necessary) has revealed the "real" reason for their split, putting it down to their clashing personality types.
"Zayn was always more introverted than socialite Gigi, who had a wide circle of friends and loved being out on the showbiz scene," they explained of the split. "He didn't get on that well with her showbiz friends and that become a bone of contention.
"Zayn was the one to end things following a string of heated rows, leaving her heartbroken—even though she knew, deep down, it was the right decision," they added.
A source at The Sun reported something similar, commenting, "They are no longer a couple but they do remain close and are supportive of each other. The reality is that they’ve grown apart, having been together for a long time.
"They have crazy work schedules that would put pressure on any relationship."
The pair dated for over two years and announced their split on Twitter with two personal statements. Zayn said he had a "huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi," while Gigi outlined how she wants "nothing but the best for [Zayn] and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for."
