Richard Gutierrez Reminds Us All To Avoid Using Single-Use Plastic

Richard says we have a long way to go when it comes to marine conservation efforts.

Apart from celebrating Zion’s birthday, Richard and Sarah got to do some sustainable travel by diving with One Ocean Diving, a pioneer group on shark conservation and education in the North Shore of Oahu.

In his latest post on May 5, Richard wrote, “We have a long way to go when it comes to our marine conservation efforts, but there are a lot of amazing groups out there that spark change.”

The actor continued, “The initial step is to care about the ocean and [its] inhabitants. Let’s continue to reduce, reuse, and avoid using single-use plastic.”

Richard also urged to stop supporting the shark’s fin soup trade. “The international fin trade is the main cause of [overfishing] globally and it threatens 60% of all shark species. Sharks play a vital role in keeping the balance of the ocean’s ecosystem,” Richard added.

The use of single-use plastic hits pretty close to home. Every day, we see and use plastic products such as sachets, plastic packaging, and wrappers—which we mindlessly throw away after they have served their purpose. Unfortunately, these single-use plastics sometimes don’t end up in the landfill, but instead, clogs our waterways, streets, and beaches.
