Hey girl. Don't be scared of this haunted mansion. I'll be holding your hand the whole way through.
While I cannot confirm that the above lines (written by me, thank you very much) will be in Disney's new live-action movie version of The Haunted Mansion, The Wrap reports that Ryan Gosling will be part of it.
Remember how well Pirates of the Carribean did for Disney? It looks like the studio would like to duplicate some of that magic with other ride-based movies.Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney, is set to debut later this year and a movie adaptation of the "It's a Small World" ride is reportedly in the works as well. Disney has been planning a Haunted Mansion movie for a few years, but they're looking to take a slightly different direction than the 1998 version starring Eddie Murphy. (Hey, I thought it was funny.)
Guillermo del Toro is now reportedly attached to direct the new version of the film (which means it's going to be less of a cartoonish ride and more of the kind of nightmarish action-horror flicks del Toro is a master at turning out.)
Guillermo and Ryan are pretty good buds—they participated in a panel at SXSW together and made reference to a mystery project they had planned to work on previously (which some speculate now was the Haunted Mansion ride movie). They even hung out and rode a bunch of rides at Disneyland earlier this year. Ryan has not confirmed the news yet, but until he does, just close your eyes and imagine spending a night in a scary haunted house with him.
No word yet on whether or not Ryan plans to break out his old Mouseketeer ears for the new role, but I will keep you posted.
