Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are widely regarded as the ultimate power couple of Hollywood: they kill it on the red carpet, are the most retweeted gif on Twitter and undeniably nail the whole "loving relationship" thing. But what're the sweetest things they've ever said about each other?
1. When Ryan made a speech about Blake being the best thing to happen to him
Whilst getting his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Ryan said in his speech: "I want to thank my wife, Blake, who is sitting right there, who is everything to me. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me—second only to this star. You make everything better, absolutely everything in my life better. You've made me the father of my dreams when I thought I only had fun-uncle potential."
2. When he said he'd take a bullet for her, but that he'd use her as a human shield for daughter James
Speaking on the David Letterman Show, Ryan said: "I used to say to [Blake], 'I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you.' I would say that to my wife. And the second I looked in that baby's eyes, I knew in that exact moment that if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby."
3. When she said she does nothing without him
"There's no major decision that I make without him. The best part is when we turn off our phones and just talk and hang out. He's my best, best friend. What do you do with your best friend? You do nothing," Blake told Marie Claire in August 2014.
4. When he smuggled apple pie for her and risked a $10,000 fine
"My wife is a foodie and loves these apple pies they make in Vancouver where I grew up,"he explained on The Graham Norton Show. "So we grabbed a bunch of them and we were heading back down to the States and across the border.
"The guard knew something was going on as I've the worst poker face ever and he had me on a hook. He said, 'You remember you did that movie Just Friends and at the end you sang I Swear?' I said, 'Yes,' and he said, 'Go ahead.'"
5. When she said he'll always be her best friend
"I knew he would always be my best friend for my whole life", Blake told Marie Claire in June 2016. "That was the biggest thing to me. I'd never known anything like the friendship that I had with him. I could like him as much as I loved him."
6. When he described their first date as "fireworks"
"We went on a double date", he explained to EW. "She was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl. That was the most awkward date from their respective probably because we were just like fireworks coming across. It was weird at first but we were buddies for a long time. I think it's the best way to have a relationship is to start as friends."
7. When he said he was more in love with her than ever
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon about when Blake gave birth to their first daughter James, Ryan gushed: "It's amazing. I'm not one for vomiting declarations of sentiment out across the airwaves, but when we had that baby, I fell more in love with my wife than I'd ever been in my entire life. I couldn't even believe it."
8. When he made her ruined wedding dress the best thing ever
Blake opened up about how devastated she was when she burnt a whole in her wedding dress because she was too busy watching Florence & The Machine and didn't notice the sparkler on her lap. She told Vogue:
"Later, my dress was hanging up and Ryan said, 'Isn't that beautiful?', I said: 'What?', and he pointed to the burn. My heart just stopped, because it was such a sensitive little subject. And he said, 'You'll always remember that moment with Florence singing and the sparklers. You have that forever, right there, preserved.' Now that's my favorite part of the dress."
9. When she said his friendship was the secret to her happiness
"That's what I appreciate about our relationship: He's my friend, first and foremost, still," Blake told Sirius XM. "Not just in our history, but in everyday life. He's my friend first and I think that's the secret to happiness. I don't know the secret to happiness, but it's the secret to my happiness, at least."
10. When she complimented how good his taste was
"I was recently asked how my style has changed since I got married, as if I was living under some sort of dictatorship," she explained to Lucky magazine in 2013. "I'm very lucky to be with someone who has better taste than me. We influence each other in different ways. With film and TV, you don't see the results for months. Building a home, you get immediate gratification."
11. When he described his wife as the "Beyoncé of red carpets"
"My wife knows how to work a red carpet, I'll say that," Reynolds said in an AOL Build interview. "Yeah, she might be the Beyoncé of red carpets. She's turned that into an athletic event...There's kung fu involved, it's really intense."
We're not sure who we want to date more tbh.
