Miss Universe Philippines National Director Shamcey Supsup-Lee revealed on September 10 that she experienced mild COVID.
In an Instagram post, the former beauty queen shared a bare-faced photo and announced that she is now COVID-free. Shamcey shared, "A few weeks ago, what we all thought was just a simple flu turned out to be COVID."
She revealed that it came as a shock as they were all fully vaccinated, yet they still got infected with mild to moderate symptoms.
Describing what it was like, Shamcey wrote, "I would describe it as a really, really bad flu. It was the first time that I've experienced a total loss of smell and taste."
Shamcey said that they were able to recover at home and said she'll be praying for "everyone's safety and for the pandemic to end soon."
Shamcey's bout with COVID is considered a "breakthrough" infection, meaning that a COVID infection occurs more than 14 days after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.
Shamcey's recovery from COVID is very timely as Miss Universe Philippines is set to crown its winner on September 25. The chosen candidate will go on to represent the country in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Israel this December.
