It's been over half a decade since the hit South Korean drama The Heirs landed in our television screens, but the show remains to be one of the most memorable series in the hearts of many K-drama fans. The 2013 show (which aired in the Philippines in 2014) follows one of the most popular plots of Korean dramas of its kind—rich boy falls in love with poor girl, former best friend also forms a crush on poor girl and causes a fuss. Throw in an elite high school where only one percent of the country's kids go to and you have a hit.

As cliché as the plot of The Heirs can be, it became an iconic show in South Korea and overseas thanks to the amazing chemistry of its cast. Wondering what they've been up to now?

Here's what the cast of the hit K-drama The Heirs is up to now:

Lee Min Ho

There's just something about Lee Min Ho that makes him so effective in playing sassy but soft-hearted characters. His character, Kim Tan, in The Heirs is reminiscent of Gu Jun Pyo, another popular rich kid role that he played in Boys Over Flowers, but his talent in the character trope hasn't stopped him from exploring other projects. In 2015, he starred in his first leading role in a film with Gangnam Blues, where he played a member of the Korean mafia in 1970s Seoul. He took on another role in Bounty Hunters, a 2016 action comedy film that has topped box office charts in South Korea and China. Later that year, he starred in another small-screen hit with Legend Of The Blue Sea, where he played a con-man who falls in love with a quirky mermaid played by Jun Ji Hyun.

Min Ho took a break from acting in 2017 to enlist in the military where he served as a public service personnel. He was later discharged in April 2019 and stayed away from the spotlight for a while. In 2020, he made his official comeback with the drama The King: The Eternal Monarch where he starred with Kim Go Eun. In the same year, Min Ho also launched his YouTube channel. The 33-year-old is currently preparing for his global drama, Pachinko.

Park Shin Hye

Park Shin Hye was already a rising star before appearing on The Heirs, but it was her portrayal of Cha Eun Sang (Kim Tan's poor but diligent love interest) that propelled her to fame. She went on to do a mix of movies and dramas after the show while collecting acting recognitions along the way. In 2015, she ranked number 33 in Forbes Korea's Power Celebrity List, thanks to her work on The Heirs and the drama Pinocchio (co-starring Lee Jong Suk) in 2014. She also explored other projects on the big screen like the acclaimed tear-jerker Miracle In Cell No. 7 (2013), My Annoying Brother (2016), and crime thriller Heart Blackened (2017). Shin Hye has also made a lot of small-screen hits like Doctors in 2016. We also saw her in the Netflix series Memories Of The Alhambra (2018). She then climbed to number 12 in the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity List in 2017.

In 2020, Shin Hye was cast in two popular Netflix movies, Alive and The CallIn 2021, she's set to play the lead role in the fantasy-mystery drama Sisyphus: The Myth, in celebration of JTBC's 10th anniversary.

Kim Woo Bin

Our favorite second-lead-turned-leading-man is another one of The Heir's stars that became a household name after starring in the show. Playing second fiddle to Lee Min Ho's Kim Tan, Kim Woo Bin breathed life to the role of Choi Young Do in the show, Tan's former best friend and second challenger to Eun Sang's heart. The role led to more acting offers for him: This includes his first major film role in Friend: The Great Legacy (2013); and notable parts in projects like The Con Artists (2014), the coming-of-age comedy film Twenty (2015), and the 2016 crime film Master.  Woo Bin was supposed to star in another crime film, Wiretap, but the shooting was halted after he was diagnosed with nasopharynx cancer in 2017. His last role on the small screen is in the 2016 drama Uncontrollably Fond with Bae Suzy

We're also very happy to report that Woo Bin's relationship with Shin Min Ah is still going strong, and they would often cheer on each other when they have new projects. Kim Woo Bin will be making his comeback to the big screen with his upcoming sci-fi filmAlien.

Kim Ji Won

A lot has happened for Kim Ji Won since she starred as Rachel Yoo, Kim Tan's fiancee in The Heirs. Just like Woo Bin, the show gave the recognition Ji Won deserved: She bagged the New Star Award from the SBS Drama Awards in 2013 after the show aired. She also appeared on a variety of projects since then, like the crime thriller Gap-dong in 2014, and on the web series One Sunny Day in 2015. In 2016, Ji Won got another big break when she played First Lieutenant Yoon Myung Joo in Descendants Of The Sun, a project which finally paved the way for her to land leading roles. In 2017, she got her first lead role in Fight For My Way opposite Park Seo Joon, adding another hit show to her acting credits. She's since made other projects including some cameo appearances, and was seen playing the love interest of DOTS co-star Song Joong Ki in the fantasy drama, Arthdal Chronicles.

Ji Won's latest project is the Netflix series Lovestruck In The City, where she is paired with Backstreet Rookie actor Ji Chang Wook. She's also in talks to star in a JTBC drama with Lee Min Ki, whom she has worked with in the 2018 film, Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead.
