Everyone's buzzing about who should play Darna next, ever since Liza Soberano announced her withdrawal from the film due to an injury.

Nadine Lustre is one of the actresses hot on a lot of people's lists to play the coveted role. She was the inspiration for a Filipino artist's rendition of Wave, Marvel's first Pinay superhero, and even director Erik Matti sees her as the next Darna, next to Liza, who was his first choice. When asked about the possibility, Nadine has shared being open to it, but stressed that it has to be someone who can give justice to the role.

In an interview with pep.ph at the 67th FAMAS, director Treb Monteras was asked to comment about Nadine as Darna, to which he reacted, "Sobra siyang bagay." He also described her as a versatile actress. Nadine, by the way, bagged the FAMAS Best Actress award for her role in Never Not Love You.

Julia Barretto, one of the front runners for the role, gamely said she'd love to have a chance to audition as the Pinay superhero. Other actresses people have expressed interest in playing Darna include Kathryn Bernardo, Jessy Mendiola, Maja Salvador, and Angel Locsin, who have all said the role is not for them.
