Harry Styles Reportedly *Turned Down* The Role Of Prince Eric For 'The Little Mermaid' Remake, And People Aren't Happy

Guess he's not gonna be part of that world after all.

Twitter went wild early this morning when it was reported that Harry Styles had officially signed on to play the role of Prince Eric in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaidopposite Halle Bailey. Fans were understandably VERY excited and were even planning to audition as sand, Ariel's sisters, and starfish, just to be in the same film as him!

As we all know, Harry's first film role was a soldier named Alex in the 2017 Christopher Nolan movie Dunkirk. He also recently did a screen test for the role of Elvis Presley in the upcoming biopic about the singer (the role eventually went to Austin Butler). So if he did get the role of Prince Eric, The Little Mermaid would've been Harry's first lead role! 

All that excitement quickly turned to confusion, however, when entertainment sites such as Variety and Billboard reported that Harry actually turned down the role.  All that fuss, followed by intense disappointment, was too much for all of us! Here's what Twitter had to say:

The Little Mermaid remake, which is based on the 1989 animated film, will feature original songs from our childhood fave and will include new songs by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
