If you've ever had The Fear™, you'll know exactly what we're talking about. That feeling of dread when you accidentally send a message to the wrong person (usually about them), an inappropriate drunken text, or clicking send before you've had a chance to take out the glaringly obvious typo. We've all been there.
But luckily for us, WhatsApp isn't the only one considering a "recall message" function, but are actually behind in the game—because Instagram already has an unsend DM feature. WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW THIS BEFORE?
So if you've ever sent an embarrassing message, or one that you just wish didn't exist any more, over Instagram's Direct Message function, your life is about to change for the better.
To unsend a message you've sent over Instagram:
- Tap in the top-right corner of Feed
- Select the conversation and go to the message you'd like to unsend
- Tap and hold on the message, and then select Unsend
The bad news is, this doesn't necessarily mean the person you're messaging hasn't seen the message—if they've already read it, annoyingly Instagram hasn't developed a way to erase their memory too (yet).
The good news, though, is that if they haven't read your message yet, it will no longer exist. Hooray!
