Ah, the Notes App—long time no see!

Now that social distancing is our new normal (at least for now), your fave celebs are finding ways to stay connected to their fans during the current coronavirus pandemic. And guess what? Vanessa Hudgens is a prime example (see: her High School Musical TikTok video)! But instead of chatting with her followers to spread hope in this confusing time, Vanessa made some insensitive comments about a virus that's literally claiming lives all around the world.

Yesterday, Vanessa hopped on Instagram Live and said, "Um, yeah. 'Til July sounds like a bunch of bullshit, I'm sorry. It's a virus, I get it, I respect it, but at the same time...even if everybody gets it, yeah...people are gonna die which is terrible, but inevitable. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be doing this right now." Um, yikes.

Naturally, her comments got a lot of backlash online. One Twitter user wrote, "Hi, @VanessaHudgens, I am not calling for your cancellation or anything, but this type of dismissiveness is what is going to get your nana and pawpaw killed. And maybe your parents. Please tell your followers that you were wrong and they need to stay home," which was honestly on the nicer end of the backlash spectrum.

Some of the angrier comments, below:

  • "This will haunt her for the rest of her life. To laugh at this unthinkable tragedy, with an almost unimaginable scale of suffering. Unconscionable."
  • "Vanessa is inconvenienced and wishes people would hurry up and die, so she can get her life back. How charming."
  • "The selfishness of these kids is infuriating. Some of us have loved ones who are extremely vulnerable."
  • "I hope the one thing that dies is her career."

To do some damage control, Vanessa first went on her Instagram Story.

"Hey guys, so yesterday I did an Instagram Live, and I realized today that some of my comments are being taken out of context. It's a crazy time. It's a crazy crazy time, and I am at home and in lockdown, and that's what I hope you guys are doing too and full quarantine and staying safe and sane," she said. "Yeah, I don't take this situation lightly by any means. I am home. So stay inside y'all."

And since that didn't really help matters since it lacked an actual apology, Vanessa whipped out the good ol' Notes App to truly say sorry and acknowledge that she was wrong. She wrote:

"Hey guys. I'm so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram Live yesterday. I realize my words were insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now. This has been a huge wake-up call about the significance my words have, now more than ever. I'm sending safe wishes to everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time."
