If you're a K-drama new-comer, you're probably familiar with famous titles like Crash Landing On You, It's Okay To Not Be Okay, and The King: Eternal Monarch. But if you're interested in digging a little deeper, you may just satisfy a quick binge after a major title by watching a bite-sized web drama. Web dramas or series usually have around 10 to 12 episodes which run for only 15 to 20 minutes.
A quick google search will offer you many web drama options, but if you'd like to start with a bit of kurot sa puso, go for the critically-acclaimed web drama We Broke Up starring YG Entertainment's Sandara Park and Kang Seung Yoon. This coming-of-age series based on a web manga of the same title is about the college romance of Noh Woo Ri (Sandara) and Ji Won Young (Seung Yoon). Meeting the band frontman Won Young at a party, Woo Ri falls in love with him, and the two start a sweet and light-hearted relationship, which leads to them living together.
As the story progresses, changes in their lives start getting in the way, and the two eventually break up—only to realize that they can't really move out of the apartment due to a loan issue. The former lovers are then forced to come to terms with the end of their relationship under one roof.
We Broke Up was a 2015 runaway hit that won Seung Yoon the best actor award K-web Fest. It was also the first Korean web drama that was invited to be screened at the Geneva International Film Festival.
Excited to watch this series? The good news is that all episodes are available on YouTube! Below is the first ep. Enjoy!
