There’s a new zombie-themed K-drama hitting the top of the Netflix Top 10 list recently. All Of Us Are Dead is a series that revolves around high school students who have to fend for themselves when a zombie apocalypse happens while they’re in school. Despite the horrific events that occur on the show, we can’t help noticing how cute one of the protagonists is: Actor Yoon Chan Young who plays student Lee Cheong San. If you think he looks familiar, that’s because he’s been working as a child actor since 2013! Now he’s making the transition to getting lead roles. 1. Mama (2014)
Who else is in it: Song Yoon Ah, Hong Jong Hyun, Jung Joon Ho, Moon Jung Hee, Park Seo Joon
This critically-acclaimed family drama made a splash back in 2014 when it was first released. In it, painter Han Seung Hee (Yoon Ah) is a single mom. When she finds out she’s terminally ill, her goal in life becomes to make sure her son, Geu Roo, gets adopted by a good family. Chan Young played Geu Roo and won two Best Young Actor awards for his fantastic work. Bonus: Our fave oppa, Park Seo Joon, makes a cameo on the show as the older Geu Roo.
2. Dr. Romantic (2016-2017)
This medical melodrama was such a big hit it spawned another season. It tells the story of surgeon Boo Yong Joo (Suk Kyu) who falls off the face of the earth after a tragedy. He reappears with a different name, Kim Sa Bu (aka Teacher Kim), and becomes the chief surgeon at Doldam Hospital. Chan Young plays the young version of Kang Dong Joo (Yeon Seok), an ambitious doctor who becomes one of Teacher Kim’s students at the hospital.
3. The King In Love (2017)
Who else is in it: Im Si Wan, Im Yoon Ah, Hong Jong Hyun
This historical drama is set in the Goryeo dynasty. Crown Prince Wang Won (Si Wan) wants to become a conqueror. As he grows up and tries to fulfill his dream, he is accompanied by two special people: his best friend and bodyguard, Wang Rin (Jong Hyun), and a woman named Ran (Yoon Ah). Won and Wang Rin both fall for Ran, but Wang Rin hides his feelings for the sake of his best friend. Trouble occurs when Ran starts falling for Wang Rin. Chan Young plays the young version of Wang Rin in the drama.
4. Doubtful Victory (2017)
Who else is in it: Yoon Kyun Sang, Jung Hye Sung
In this fun crime series, Chan Young plays the young version of Kim Jong Sam, a convict who escaped from prison. He takes on the role of fake detective Oh Il Seung under the Metropolitan Investigation Unit. He does his best to solve crimes alongside inspector Jin Jin Young (Hye Sung) and the rest of their squad –all while trying to keep his identity a secret. But as the series goes along, he uncovers more than he bargained for.
5. Still 17 (2018)
Teenage girl Woo Seo Ri (Hye Sun) gets into an accident that leaves her in a coma. When she wakes up years later, she still retains the mind of a 17-year-old despite now being 30 years old. Meanwhile, Gong Woo Jin (Se Jong) is a 30-year-old set designer with a cold and eccentric personality. What other people don’t know is that he suffers from trauma from his younger days: He thinks he caused his crush to get into an accident and die 13 years ago. Seo Ri and Woo Jin cross paths and start falling in love with each other. Chan Young plays the high school version of Woo Jin.
6. Doctor John (2019)
2019 marks the year Chan Young finally got to graduate from playing the young versions of characters in dramas. In Doctor John, a unique medical drama that starts in prison, he plays Lee Gi Seok, a high school student with CIPA (congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis), which prevents him from feeling pain and temperature. He becomes a patient of protagonist Doctor Cha Yo Han (Ji Sung), an anesthesiologist who was in prison for three years before going back to work at a hospital. He’s a genius doctor known for diagnosing patients in just ten seconds.
7. Nobody Knows (2020)
Who else is in it: Kim Seo Hyung, Kim Sae Ron, Ryu Deok Hwan, Park Hoon, Ahn Ji Ho
This mystery melodrama will break your heart. After her best friend gets murdered, Cha Young Jin (Seo Hyung) decides she has to hunt down the killer. She becomes a smart and dependable detective who specializes in protecting the youth. When Eun Ho (Ji Ho), a young student under her care, gets hurt in the midst of a case she’s investigating, she starts working with his teacher, Lee Sun Woo (Deok Hwan), to uncover the truth. Chan Young plays Joo Dong Myung, Eun Ho’s fellow middle school student everyone thinks is a bully. But what they don’t know is that Eun Ho and Dong Myung are closer than people think.
8. All Of Us Are Dead (2022)
This Netflix Korean original series revolves around high school students who are forced to band together and face zombies while they’re trapped in school. Chan Young plays Lee Cheong San, a friend and the next-door neighbor of protagonist Nam On Jo (Ji Hoo). He’s had a crush on her for a long time and so he does her best to keep her safe. Cheong San is your typical boy-next-door—if the boy-next-door just happens to be a chivalrous hero. The rest of the students learn to depend on him as the series goes along, thanks to his great leadership and levelheadedness.
