After starring in the sweeping fantasy romance drama The King: Eternal Monarch in 2020, Kim Go Eun will be back on the small screen this year. The 29-year-old Hallyu superstar is confirmed to take on the titular character in the upcoming K-drama Yumi's Cells. She's the only cast member that has officially accepted the project—although *three* rumored male actors are making us super-excited for this project!
To know more about Kim Go Eun's new K-drama, Yumi's Cells, check out some fast facts about it below:
What's the plot of Yumi's Cells?
Yumi's Cells is actually a webtoon adaptation of the same name! Yumi's Cells was first published in 2015 and was written by Lee Dong Gun. You can read the Yumi's Cells webtoon here.
According to Soompi, the drama version is about an ordinary office worker named Yumi, who isn't the best at expressing her thoughts and feelings. Here comes the plot twist: The drama is told from the point of view of Yumi's ~brain cells~ (hence the title!) and they help her control her thoughts, feelings, and actions!
Who's in the cast of Yumi's Cells?
Kim Go Eun as Yumi
Kim Go Eun is the lead star and only confirmed cast member so far. She gushed about her relatable character in a recent interview and said, "I think the reason that the love story of the ordinary woman Yumi was able to make so many people laugh and cry over such a long period of time was because of how relatable it was. I'm looking forward to her future journey."
Ahn Bo Hyun as Goo Woong
Ahn Bo Hyun appeared in a slew of dramas in the past year: Itaewon Class, Kairos, and the upcoming Netflix series Undercover (My Name). If he accepts Yumi's Cells, he will play the main love interest of Yumi, a nonchalant but romantic man named Goo Woong.
SHINee's Minho as Woo Gi
After two successful comebacks with K-pop powerhouse, SHINee, and a beloved guest-starring role in Lovestruck In The City, Minho is currently in talks to appear in Yumi's Cells. His special role is Woo Gi, Yumi's officemate whom she has a massive yet one-sided crush on.
GOT7's Jinyoung as Yoo Babi
GOT7's Jinyoung has been busy with his acting career the past months with the film The Angel Without, The Devil Within and is currently shooting the tvN drama Devil Judge. Hopefully all goes as planned with Yumi's Cells so we can see him play the role of Yoo Babi, Yumi's second boyfriend.
When and where will Yumi's Cells be shown?
Yumi's Cells is set to start filming in the first half of 2021 and will reportedly air by the end of the year. There's no word on which South Korean network it will air or which streaming service in the Philippines it will be available on, so stay tuned for updates!
