5 Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

Oh December, how we love you so, but must you really tempt us with so much delicious food?

Don't worry, there are ways you can have your cake and eat it, too. Here are some tips to follow during the holidays (and the rest of the year!):

1. Don’t get too excited or overwhelmed when you see food. Feast your eyes, but don’t stuff your mouth with everything in sight. Research shows that practicing mindful eating is a good way to curb weight gain. Take your time chewing your food and savoring each spoonful.

2. Avoid midnight snacks. Staying up to catch a glimpse of  Santa Claus? Hands off the milk and cookies!

4.  Don’t deprive yourself because this will increase the likelihood of a craving binge. Try a small slice of cake, sip half a cup of hot cocoa, or enjoy a few pieces of cheese, but in moderation.

5. Don’t be a nightcrawler. If you wanna lose weight, you need to get a proper amount of sleep. We know your schedule is probably packed with Christmas parties, but don’t neglect your health (and your figure). According to a study published in the American Journal of Health Promotion, people who maintain a regular sleep schedule have a lower percentage of body fat than those who sleep irregular sleep hours.
