Researchers from Harvard University and The University of Vermont discovered a link between the use of certain Instagram filters and depression. They studied 166 individuals and found a strong enough connection that those suffering quietly could get help much sooner.
Each participant filled out a clinical depression survey and handed their Instagram accounts to the researchers. A total of 43,000 photos were examined. They found that photos of people who used cooler or monochrome colors predicted depression. They also had less people in their photos, as well as used less filters. Those who showed signs of depression that did use a filter often chose "Inkwell." Of course, the researchers acknowledge that some people really just don't like colors, and some photos really just look better in black and white.
