Nobody likes hanging out with negatrons. First of all, it’s a major buzz kill to listen to them rant about everything, from their bosses being a major pain to their cup of coffee not being hot enough. Yes we know it sucks, but really, it’s not the end of the world.
But that’s not the only reason why you should steer clear of them; it turns out listening to complainers is bad for your brain, too.
Trevor Blake, a serial entrepreneur and author of Three Simple Steps: A Map to Success in Business and Life, shares, “The brain works more like a muscle than we thought. So if you're pinned in a corner for too long listening to someone being negative, you're more likely to behave that way as well."
Moreover, listening to naggers also kills your brain cells. According to research, exposing yourself to too much negativity—including TV shows, movies, news clips, etc—peels away neurons in the brain's hippocampus. "That's the part of your brain you need for problem solving. Basically, it turns your brain to mush." Yikes!
Just remember: birds of the same feather flock together. So do yourself a favor and surround yourself with positive and happy people. Trust us, it’ll make your life so much easier.
