1. Salads, salads, and more salads!
According to Miss Universe Albania Lindita Idrizi, a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, “Is it green?” If it is, it’s probably healthy. Miss Universe Panama Keity Drennan loves salads, and her favorite kind is “arugula with strawberry, almonds, parmesan cheese with lemon olive oil and apple vinegar.” Both Miss Universe Austria Dajana Dzinic and Miss Universe South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene need some avocado in their bowl of greens, and we couldn’t agree more.
2. Grilled chicken with vegetables, anyone?
We all know health enthusiasts are major fans of chicken breast—grilled, of course—and Miss Universe candidates are no exception. Miss Universe Guam Muneka Joy Cruz Taisipic opts for “a serving of chicken breast, brown rice and egg whites all mixed together like fried rice” every time she needs to eat cleaner. Miss Universe Thailand Chalita Suansane keeps it simple and eats her grilled chicken with a side of steamed vegetables.
3. Or, you know, ditch the chicken and just go hard on the veggies.
Miss Universe Georgia Nuka Karalashvili just can’t get enough of “grilled vegetables, especially the combination of well-known, local ones and foreign, exotic types [because] it feels as if these new tastes take you to other places all over the world and a simple meal turns into a real feast.” Cauliflower-based dishes are also a crowd favorite among the contestants!
4. Fish is also a good option.
Miss Universe Costa Rica Carolina Rodriguez Duran is all about ceviche: “[Ceviche] is made with raw fish which is cooked with citrus lime juice. Additional seasonings such as chopped onions, peppers, salt, and cilantro are also added. Ceviche can be sided with avocado or chips if you desire" We do. We do desire.
5. Keep it fresh…
With some fruit! Miss Universe Malaysia Kiran Jassal recommends, “Greek yogurt with fruits, nuts and muesli! It's the perfect snack that keeps you chilled on a hot day while filling your hungry belly!”
