Heads up, OG K-drama fans! One of the Korean dramas that ignited everyone's love for Hallyu culture is confirmed to have a sequel.
The 2003 Korean drama Dae jang-geum, more popularly known as Jewel In The Palace among Filipino viewers, is reportedly gearing up for its production this 2024, twenty years after its finale.
To refresh everyone's memory, the story revolved around the real-life journey of its protagonist Seo Jang Geum, who worked as a royal kitchen cook during the Joseon Dynasty era. It followed her success story as she strived to become the first female royal physician at the time.
On January 30, 2024, Korean news media outlets reported that Lee Young Ae, who portrayed Seo Jang Geum in 2003, will be reprising her role for the hit drama's upcoming sequel. According to a Soompi report, entertainment company Fantagio confirmed that Young Ae was cast and has completed a contract with the drama writer since June 2023.
The sequel is slated to air sometime in 2025.
