Doing This One Thing Could Quickly Improve Your Working Day

No matter your career, we'd bet that if someone could give you a way to relieve the stresses that working all day brings, you'd snap it up in a second.

And according to new research, there's an easy way to improve your working day that doesn't even take that much time.

Hello Giggles reported on research from the Journal of Management that revealed the best way to reduce working pressures is to incorporate mindfulness into your day.

The study revealed that companies that have mindfulness programs are most likely to have teams with improved focus and teamwork skills.

The researchers only found two papers, in a total of 4,000 looking at the effect of mindfulness in the workplace, that had negative findings. It states in summary: "Mindfulness is often viewed as either a touchy-feely fad or valuable management tool that can lift an entire workplace. A new comprehensive analysis of mindfulness research suggests the latter—that injecting a corporate culture of mindfulness not only improves focus, but the ability to manage stress and how employees work together."

Taking the time to center your thoughts increases consciousness throughout the day and can make decision-making less stressful. The study also showed that mindfulness can create empathy and compassion in working relationships.

So, the next time you're feeling under pressure at work, try to build in five-minute breaks to practice mindfulness, and you may see the benefits fairly quickly.
