It's been a few months since Typhoon Ulysses devastated the Philippines and parts of the country are still recovering from that disaster. When the typhoon hit in November 2020, Donnalyn Bartolome went to towns in Rizal and Marikina City to help with rescue operations by donating boats that she bought that same day. But she didn't stop there.

Donna recently donated and planted 1,055 native bamboo trees in Rizal. In an Instagram post, she wrote, "I feel like people have forgotten what happened to us just months ago with Typhoon Ulysses. I didn't. I will not."

Hoping this serves as a long-term plan, planting trees can help prevent erosion and landslides. Before you plant anything, though, make sure you consult an expert because "there are trees that can be harmful kapag hindi siya meant to be planted in that area." Her team coordinated the project with the pulis provincial office in Rizal as well as the Antipolo City pulis station.

They picked that specific spot to plant trees because there's a watershed nearby, which leads to the Marikina River. Hopefully, once the bamboo grows, it'll help lessen the amount of water that flows to the Marikina River when it rains.
