A Selection Of Unique Wines For The Holidays

We give you the scoop on the best wines to get your girlfriends, boyfriend, and guests this party season.

Good wine is a vital part of the holiday season. The perfect bottle can liven up a party, bring friends together, and even enhance the romance between two people. This Christmas, we recommend checking out the different offerings of a local winemaker that produces world-class bottles for everyone's tastes.

Manny O. Wines was launched in 2006 by Manny Osmena, a wine collector who was inspired by traditional wine-producing methods of old Europe. To date, his wine varieties have won 49 awards in seven countries, thanks to the unique flavors developed in his bottles. What makes his wines different from imported ones is how he blends them to fit the Asian palate in a way that Western winemakers cannot match. All it takes is one sip of any of his wines to taste the difference.

We recently got the chance to chat with Manny, and he shared with us his wine philosophy: "Good wines give you pleasure, but great wines give you emotions." With that in mind, we asked Manny to share his wine recommendations with Cosmo girls who are looking to purchase bottles for their holiday feasts and parties and as gifts. Here are some of his picks:

For Your Girlfriends

One of his unique wines is the Agapitos Rose, a rose-tinted wine made in Portugal. It's a good starter for girls who don't usually drink because it has a refreshing, tutti-frutti flavor that your barkada will love. "It's a very sexy drink," Manny tells us. "Not just the color, but even the taste."

For Your Man

For a romantic night in, get your guy the brand's top-of-the-line red wine, the Bibulus Medoc-Cru Bourgeois. You can pop it open during dinner since it goes well with roast meats, then cozy up to him afterward while you continue to enjoy the licorice and vanilla notes.

For Your Guests

Liven up your next Christmas party with a white dining wine like the Agapitos Branco, which is "great for a lot of lighter food like salads or even kilawin na isda" or the Discipulus Blanc, which goes well with grilled meat dishes, sashimi, and dim sum. If you prefer red wine, the Sumiller is an excellent choice that pairs well with saucy Filipino dishes.

This holiday season, enjoy good wine like a bottle of Manny O. Wines, which retail for P635-P1,235 for the standard brands, with your loved ones.  Launch the gallery for more information on the wine varieties you can enjoy!

Manny O. Wines are available at Cav Wine Shop-Cafe in Bonifacio High Street, The Landmark in Makati and TriNoma Mall, Deli in Mandarin Oriental, D+B Wines in Cebu, and Dulcinea branches in Metro Manila.
