Cosmo Recommends: The Freshest Seafood For Sharing

Are you and your friends a big fan of the ocean's bounty but want to eat good food on a budget? Try two great restos at the Newport Mall in Resorts World!

NEW ORLEANS

Where To Go:
2nd Level, Newport Mall, Resorts World, Pasay City

What They're Known For:
Louisiana-inspired fare like barbecued ribs, steaks, and seafood fresh from the ocean.

The Resto:
Conveniently located in an air-conditioned courtyard of restaurants within the Newport Mall in Resorts World, New Orleans is clearly inspired by its namesake city, New Orleans, Louisiana. The interior of the restaurant is always a little dimly lit to give you that Louisiana nightlife feel. The walls are painted to look like buildings, and the ceiling is painted to look like the night sky. There's an open dining area right outside the door for smokers and for folks who'd like to be closer to the bar, and there's a piano for live music (which New Orleans has on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays).

Who To Bring:
Your barkada! The servings are big, so you and your friends can share. If you're bringing a date, make sure you have other couple friends with you, too! It's a great place to eat before heading to Republiq to dance the night away or before you hit the cinemas (check out the review here).

Food Favorites:
Some of New Orleans' biggest bestsellers that are perfect for sharing with your friends are their Creole Seafood Jampaella (P698), which is the New Orleans version of Spanish paella: chicken, andouille sausage, peppers, seafood, and rice. Definitely try the New Orleans Baby Back Ribs, which will set you back P398 for a half order and P698 for a full order. The ribs come with delicious 'dirty' rice and coleslaw, and they're grilled to perfection: blackened on the outside, soft, tender, and tasty on the inside. Both dishes are good for sharing among at least three people each.

New Orleans' Jambalaya is also a hit, and you can order the Chicken, Fish, or Ratatouille Jambalaya (P385) or the Seafood Jambalaya (P465). There are also vegetarian options for your friends who aren't too fond of meat. The food at New Orleans is rich and flavorful, and definitely not meant for just one person!

THE RED CRAB

Where To Go:
2nd Level, Newport Mall, Resorts World, Pasay City

What They're Known For:
Crab, crab, and more crab! There are 16 ways of cooking crab and The Red Crab does them all.

The Resto:
The Red Crab is huge, spacious, and simply designed. The interior is mostly a clean, crisp white and slate gray with sleek wave-inspired decor, but what really stands out is the mural on the back wall: a pretty cute, slightly modern painting of seafood with that traditional Filipino song painted onto it: "tong tong tong, pakitong-kitong..."

Who To Bring:
It's a great place to eat with your family or your friends. Eating crab is always an event, so at the very least, come by on special occasions. The food is definitely for sharing! (If you're bringing a date, make sure you are already really comfortable with each other!)

Food Favorites:
With a name like "The Red Crab," what they're best at is pretty obvious: crab. There are 16 ways to cook it and they know how to do all of them. Their seafood is totally fresh out of the sea; no malansa taste at all. You definitely have to try their Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter Crab, which is cooked in garlic and chilis and placed over garlic noodles. The prices for crab dishes differ based on the crab's gender, and, if it's male, the crab's weight:

Male:
P105 per 100g (if the crab weighs 600g to 700g), P135 per 100g (if the crab weighs 800g to 1kg), and P145 per 100 g (if the crab weighs 1.1kg or more)
Female: P155 per 100g for all sizes

Also try their Three-Layered Fish (P325), which is a dish of creamy dory, ham, and vegetables, and their Crab Fried Rice (P270). Everything is for sharing! And if you have a friend or family member who is allergic to shellfish, The Red Crab also has meat and fish options, including steak and cochinillo (roast suckling pig). They don't have chicken dishes yet, but they're planning to put some in eventually. They're also developing regional crab specials to incorporate into their menu. If you're looking for the freshest catch, this is where to find it!
