How to Make Yourself More Marketable

Whether you’re running your own business or employed in a big company, part of being successful is selling yourself as the best “product” to invest in. “Marketing is about finding your unique abilities, and being able to communicate these to others effectively,” explains personality development coach Karen Williams. “So, take the opportunity to let people know why they should promote you, employ you, or buy from you.” Here are some tips to do just that:

1. List ’Em Down. Grab a pen, and jot down the strengths and skills that you can wow people with when you meet them for the first time. Don’t forget to display those stellar qualities every chance you get.

2. Come Up With the Perfect Pitch.  Prepare yourself for encounters with potential business associates and contacts by developing an “elevator speech.” This is the kind of message that conveys who you are and what you can do for others. Keep it succinct, so you don’t seem too self-absorbed.

3. Prep Yourself Pre-Party. Before you head out to a meeting or a function, make sure you arm yourself with the knowledge to conduct yourself properly. Make a great first impression by using appropriate eye contact, giving a firm handshake, and smiling. Also, choose your outfit wisely, know who you’re going to meet, and plan what you’re going to say.
