On November 30, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Metro Manila—including Batangas, Iloilo City, Tacloban City, Lanao del Sur, Iligan City and Davao City—will remain under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) until December 31. GCQ is considered as the second-lowest quarantine classification, while Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) is one level lower. The rest of the country will be placed under MGCQ.
Because of the quarantine guidelines, indoor cinemas in Metro Manila are still not allowed to operate. But don't worry, because if you feel like going out to safely watch a movie, you *technically* can at the Venice Grand Canal Mall located at McKinley Hill, Taguig City. They recently opened a float-in cinema! According to reports, this project is the first of its kind here in the Philippines.
Based on the photos, the concept is similar to a drive-in cinema where there's a big screen and you watch from your own personal space. In this setting, you're onboard a gondola that's floating on the mall's manmade canal. What a unique concept!
Of course, social distancing is still observed to ensure the safety of all moviegoers. Based on the photos, each gondola can accomodate a maximum of two people.
