This Pinay Is Leading A Team That's Working On A New Mass Testing Method For COVID-19 In Switzerland

In the past few months, we've seen several people exert efforts and help in the fight against COVID-19. Pinoy celebrities have raised funds, Pinay flight attendants have donated healthcare essentials to those in need, and of course, there are the medical frontliners who work tirelessly each day to help us get through this health crisis. 

Another Pinay abroad is also contributing in her own way during this pandemic. Meet Catharine Aquino-Fournier, a Filipina who is leading the development of HiDRA-seq, a COVID-19 mass testing technology in Switzerland. HiDRA-seq detects the novel coronavirus using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), a state-of-the-art DNA sequencing technology. At the Functional Genomic Center where Catharine works, she is currently leading the DNA sequencing team. 

She shared, "Lahat ng pag-iisip namin siyempre focused doon sa COVID-19, kasi apektado kami, [atapektado yung family namin. Naisip namin ano kaya ang puwede naming gawin based doon sa knowledge namin na puwedeng makatulong doon sa mass testing."
