Good morning to everyone except Selena Gomez's online trolls! On April 10, the actress and singer addressed the hate she continues to get from trolls who rudely comment on her looks, unprompted.
On her TikTok Stories, Selena started off by saying, “So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich.” Okay, mood? Check. Vibe? Also check.
The Only Murders in the Building star then correctly noted that what she eats doesn't even matter, and people will always have something to say about her no matter what. Though she phrased it in a much more badass way, obvi: “Honestly, I don't care about my weight because people bitch about it anyway. 'You're too small,' 'you're too big,' 'that doesn't fit.' 'Meh meh meh meh.'” *snaps*
And juuuuust when we thought her post couldn't be any more perfect, she concluded by saying, “Bitch, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye.” Please tell me I can make a t-shirt with this quote ASAP.
This isn't the first time Selena has opened up about all of the ridiculous criticism she gets, which she says began around 2015 when she posed nude for the cover of her 2015 album, Revival.
She revealed to Us Weekly the same year that she would “land at the airport and people would yell out, 'You’re fat!'” and the comments got so out of hand she decided to start going to therapy to take care of her mental health while being bullied so publicly. “Even if I did gain weight, I’m fine. That’s what the picture represents,” she added.
Since then, Sel has spoken about her battle with lupus and her subsequent kidney transplant, both of which have affected her health and wellbeing. “I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues,” she said in a 2019 interview on friend Raquelle Stevens’s video series Giving Back Generation.
Selena more recently told Cosmo last August, around the release of her makeup line, Rare Beauty, “I fluctuate in my weight a lot, so I’ve had to learn pretty early to have thick skin when it comes to this stuff and to understand that it doesn’t matter at all. It’s just hateful. It’s all it is.” Consider the mic dropped.
