With the rise of Instagram, everybody knows that the way to a millennial’s heart is through picture-perfect spots. Cafes add quirky selfie corners, parks invest in colorful murals, and there’s no shortage of unicorn anything these days—that shit’s magic on your feed.
But a village in Indonesia just raised the stakes. Previously called Kampung Wonosari, the local government spent $23,000 (or over P1 million) to rebrand itself. 232 houses were painted teal, salmon, gold, and green. It’s now called Kampung Pelangi, and people are desperately trying to visit.
Apart from repainting the whole village, they’ve apparently enlisted artists to create 3D murals. And their efforts didn’t go to waste. The “rainbow village” has boosted the economy significantly, which is why the local government has decided to invest in cleaning up the area more.
