As much as it pains us to tell you, Spain is home to the world’s “best” beaches. 579 beaches along the country’s coastline have been awarded a flag by the Blue Flag International Jury.
The Blue Flag International Jury is a world-renowned eco-label. According to their website, “in order to qualify for this prestigious award, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety-related, and access-related criteria must be met and maintained.”
So they’re not kidding around.
Spain’s Association for Environmental Education and the Consumer reported that 16% of the blue flags awarded went to Spain; this means that one out every five Spanish beaches will have a blue flag.
And they’ve remained on top since 1987. Damn, Spain. We see you.
