This Woman's Whisper Videos Are Surprisingly Soothing

Just relax.

*Whispers* “Would you like me to help you fall asleep?”

Meet Maria, a 28-year-old Russian expat who likes to make YouTube videos while whispering to help people sleep better. It may sound a little strange, but it's apparently pretty effective. In fact, one of her most viewed videos got nearly 8 million views and her channel, GentleWhispering, has more then 300,000 subscribers.

According to washingtonpost.com, “Her voice and movements hold a certain magic: They can instill tranquillity, overcome insomnia—and induce a mysterious physical sensation known as autonomous sensory meridian response, or ASMR, wherein the body is flooded with waves of euphoric tingles.”

Maria discovered the power of whispers as a child. She noticed that the relaxing sound of her teacher whispering instructions in her ear gave her the same pleasure and comfort as a tickle or a hairbrush against her scalp. A few years later, she decided to create her own videos to help others.

The point of her videos is to give viewers a feeling of pleasurable tingling that begins in the head and scalp, down the spine, and throughout your entire body. She simulates different roles in each video, like a hairdresser, a masseuse, or a librarian.
