The Technical Working Group (TWG) has terminated the motorcycle taxi pilot run, which covers the operations of Angkas, JoyRide, and Move It, two months before its supposed end on March 23. TWG chairman Antonio Gardiola Jr. said the termination will take effect next week, according to Rappler.
Yesterday, January 20, he said the TWG found it difficult to gather data “because of actions being undertaken by one of the players so it's better to terminate it.” In a letter to Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade dated January 17, the TWG said, “One participant, Angkas, is deliberately questioning and arrogantly defying the guidelines set forth by the TWG.”
The TWG also recommended that Angkas and its incorporators be blacklisted “as they blatantly exhibited defiance on mandated guidelines set forth by the TWG,” according to ABS-CBN News.
The recommendation came after Temporary Restraining Orders were issued against the TWG’s biker cap, which was supposed to apply to Angkas, JoyRide, and Move It.
However, the Senate panel urged the TWG to reconsider their decision since the pilot run was meant to study the feasibility of motorcycle taxis as public transportation. Sen. Grace Poe called for more data before terminating the pilot run, while Sen. Bong Go said he will recommend its continuation to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
