There’s actual royalty competing at the Southeast Asian Games—Brunei Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah is part of his country’s polo team, which won against the Philippine team recently, according to ABS-CBN News.
His sister, Princess Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah, is also part of the Brunei team. Asked about playing with family members, the prince said in an Inquirer report, “I guess on the field, we are very old teammates.”
The prince has 1.2 million followers on Instagram, and some Filipinos reportedly traveled to the game venue in Calatagan, Batangas to watch them play. "They just wanted some pictures and I'm flattered," he said in a 24 Oras report.
Aside from being a national polo player, the prince is a second lieutenant in the Brunei army and a qualified helicopter pilot, according to E! Online. He has a bachelor’s degree in International Politics and a postgraduate degree in International Studies and Diplomacy.
The prince and the rest of the Brunei national team will compete against Malaysia on November 28, according to Inquirer.
