At nine years old, most kids are still in elementary, but this child prodigy is about to graduate from college! Laurent Simons from Belgium is on track to get a degree in electrical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands next month, according to CNN Philippines.
The school staff described Laurent as “simply extraordinary,” “hyper intelligent,” and “very sympathetic.”
After college, Laurent plans to take a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and get a degree in medicine as well, NBD. In the future, he wants to develop artificial organs.
Laurent has an IQ of 145 and finished high school in less than two years according to CBS.
His father, Alexander Simons, said absorbing information is easy for Laurent. “I think the focus will be on research and applying the knowledge to discover new things.”
Laurent comes from a family of doctors, though they’re not sure why he absorbs information “like a sponge.” His mom, Lydia Simons, joked that it might be because she ate a lot of fish when she was pregnant with him.
Since he’s only nine years old, his parents try to find a balance between nurturing his skills and enjoying his childhood.
