Hidilyn Diaz and the law of attraction
When she was only 17 years old and preparing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Hidilyn was interviewed for the 24 Oras segment "Time Out." In the vid, Hidilyn said she started weightlifting at 11 years old after she saw her cousins trying the sport. "Natuloy-tuloy ko yung weightlifting dahil sa scholarship sa school namin sa Universidad de Zamboanga," a baby-faced Hidilyn shared.
Weightlifter and olympian Ramon Solis, Hidilyn's coach at that time, added that Hidilyn would go through a long-term training program until 2012.
When asked about her future, Hidilyn said she believes she will win an Olympic gold someday! "Ang Diyos po. Kasi parang pinapahiwatig niya sa akin na magiging...athlete ako someday. Na dadalhin ko yung flag ng Pilipinas as weightlifter gold medalist sa Olympics."
And...in a recent interview with Boy Abunda, Hidilyn was asked: "Gagawing pelikula ang buhay mo, ano ang titulo?" Her answer will seriously give you goosebumps because she said, "Ginto." Go, Hidi!
Sure enough, Hidilyn took home the Philippines' first-ever Olympic gold medal during the Tokyo Olympics. Her historic winning moment was super emotional, too. Watch it below:
And here she is during the awarding ceremony:
Hidilyn is also a 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist, a 2018 Asian Games gold medalist, and a 2019 SEA Games gold medalist.
