According to a report from Saksi, transport groups are seeking to increase the minimum jeepney fare due to the additional excise tax of P1.50 in diesel products, which will be effective on January 1, 2020.

PhilStar reported that up to five transport groups are seeking to increase jeepney fares and are planning to file a consolidated petition to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for a provisional increase of P1 to P2 in the base fare for the first four kilometers.

Jeepney drivers spend an average of P1,500 on diesel daily.
