Mayor Vico Sotto Is In Quarantine After His Driver Dies Of COVID-19

Updated, Monday, March 15, at 2:27 p.m.: Mayor Vico paid tribute to his "ever-smiling" Kuya Vener in a newly-published Facebook post. "Isang mabuting asawa, ama, at kaibigan. Mahal na mahal siya ng mga tao. Mami-miss ka namin Kuya Vener. Mahal ka namin."

Following DOH protocol, he will be in quarantine until March 24, two weeks from when he last had contact with Kuya Vener.

On Monday, March 15, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said that he was in quarantine after losing a close friend, his driver, to COVID-19.

Mayor Vico said he is awaiting results of his COVID-19 test, which was done last Sunday.

"Kasalukuyan ako po ay naka quarantine, nag COVID-19 test na rin po ako," Sotto said in a Facebook live video. "Huwag kayo mag-alala okay ako, wala ako symptoms bukod sa chronic cough ko na matagal na naman wala pang pandemya, may chronic cough na ako."

"Hindi muna ako makakapasok sa trabao at kinancel ko muna ang mga appointment o meeting. Kung maari eh via Zoom o Viber na muna," he added.

Mayor Vico said he last had contact with his driver on Wednesday, March 10, and the latter died on Friday, March 12, due to COVID-19. He expressed his condolences to the family.

"Noong nakaraang Biyernes ay nawalan po tayo ng isang matalik na kaibigan dahil sa COVID-19. Siya po yung driver ko kaya talagang close contact ako, bagama't sumusunod naman ako sa health protocols," he said.

There was no flag ceremony at the Pasig City Hall on Monday. Alternative work arrangement was also reimplemented.
