In hopes to decongest the streets of Manila, Sam Miguel Corporation (SMC) recently formalized its plans to build a tollway above the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).

Submitting a proposal to the Department of Transportation, SMC said in a disclosure that they formally submitted an unsolicited proposal and requirements to pursue its plan to build a 10-lane expressway above EDSA, CNN Philippines reported.

According to the report, SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang unveiled his plans of building the tollway in September 2019. Mr. Ang said that the proposed road will extend from Macapagal Avenue in Pasay to Balintawak, Quezon City.

Mr. Ang said that the expressway will be similar to roads in Japan, with fees ranging from P150 to P200. It’s also estimated that the tollway will be finished within 24 to 30 months.

Meanwhile, Manila Bulletin reported in September 2019 that Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo welcomed Mr. Ang’s idea and called it a “beautiful proposal” that would help solve vehicular congestion along EDSA.
