Taguig City has just rolled out its barangay-based and drive-thru COVID-19 testing as part of its Systematic Mass Approach to Responsible Testing (SMART) program which aims to ramp up the number of tests conducted within the community.
The drive-thru testing will be available in temporary testing facilities at Bonifacio Global City in Barangay Fort Bonifacio and Taguig Lakeshore in Barangay Lower Bicutan. Residents of Taguig may avail of the service, and whether or not one needs to be tested can be determined through a set self-assessment procedure.
City mayor Lino Cayetano said in an interview with ANC that citizens may accomplish an online self-assessment form which will then be evaluated by a doctor. The results will be returned to the citizens via email and if said citizen needs to be tested, they will be given a numbered form indicating the date and time which the drive-thru test will be conducted. At the drive-thru tents, the person will only need to present their number.
In addition to this, Taguig City has also started its barangay-based testing. Health workers will go around the barangays to assess citizens and check for any symptoms of COVID-19. Those who need to be tested will be assigned a schedule, and they will be transported to and from their respective health centers by the LGU's partner tricycle drivers.
"With these approaches, we are making COVID-19 testing more accessible to Taguigeños," Cayetano said in a statement. "In doing this, we are capturing the real breadth of COVID-19 infections in the city, normalizing testing and taking away the stigma around the infection.
"This new step is part of that holistic approach. We see mass testing as a crucial and proactive step, one that we think will benefit the city even beyond the ECQ."
