It's normal to be nervous when you're about to get a piercing—even if it isn't your first time. After all, an object is about to pierce your skin, so it's bound to be a little painful. But for 16-year-old Sissy Sheridan, the experience was more than overwhelming.
After getting an ear piercing at Icing by Claire's, a store in the U.S. that sells jewelry and accessories, Sissy told her TikTok followers that the employee accidentally pinned her mask to her ear.

In an interview with BuzzFeed News, that even though she was excited to get her third earring, she wanted to be extra careful and still wear a mask because we're still in a pandemic: "I'm wearing two masks because one covered more than the other. The blue one didn't cover as much, and I knew the woman [doing the piercing] would be pretty close to me." The TikToker also recorded the whole thing, not knowing that the mask would get stuck to her hear:

She explained, "She does the first one, which is the right ear, and that was the one [she got] the mask stuck in. I had no idea. I'm just sitting in the chair. I didn't feel anything. There was no sign the mask had been punctured in the ear."
Sissy says that she and her mom have reached out to the store for a full refund ($73 or almost P3,700) but that the manager is refusing until the earring is returned. A spokesperson from Claire's corporate headquarters told BuzzFeed News, however, that they are aware of the issue and that they "will take appropriate corrective action, including offering Sissy and her mom a full refund."
In an update, Sissy shares that the mask is gone, but that "there is still a piece of the mask's string stuck in [her] ear."
