Good news! The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that it will give free rides on the MRT-3, LRT-2, and PNR on weekdays for students starting July 1. They will also waive terminal fees on all airports and seaports in the country for students starting in July and August of this year. This benefit covers undergraduate and college levels as well as students of vocational or technical courses.

MRT-3:

3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

LRT-2:

4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m.

3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PNR:

5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.

3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Students will just need to fill up a form on the DOTr, MRT-3, and LRTA websites to get a "Student Free Ride ID" and to start availing of the free rides. The registration starts on June 28.

During the pilot run on July 1, they can just present their own student ID first until they are able to get their "Student Free Ride ID." They can also seek assistance for the IDs from DOTr Help Centers.

The thinking behind the initiative is to encourage students to go to school early and go home early, said  Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.

Airports will be waiving terminal fees starting August 1, according to the  Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), while the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has confirmed to offer the same in seaports beginning July 16.
