ICYDK, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) started accepting voter registrations on Saturdays this February to encourage more Filipinos to sign up for the 2022 polls. This way, people who have work on weekdays can easily register.
To help bolster voter turnout, COMELEC has extended the voting registration hours. People can now go to all Office of the Election Officer (OEOs) nationwide from Tuesdays to Saturdays (yes, including holidays), from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Registration hours used to only be until 3:00 p.m. This new schedule was implemented on Monday, February 15, 2021.
Of course, safety protocols are in place: Each OEO has a no face mask + shield, no registration policy. Registrants can also use ear loop masks, indigenous, reusable, do-it-yourself masks or any combination of these. Apart from sanitizing your hands and having your temperature checked, you also have to fill out a health declaration form. Physical distancing is observed at all times. Keep these in mind for when you register.
Earlier in February, COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez said they've registered 1.3 million new voters before the September 30 deadline.
