Hopes and Fears looked at 10 cities around the world to see who had the longest marriages and the lowest divorce rates.
If you're looking to make sure you've got a long and healthy marriage, Rome, Italy, is your best bet. The country has a divorce rate of only 30.7 percent (which is really impressive considering most countries hover around 50) and has an average length of 18 years. Ottawa, Canada , and Paris, France, round out the top three. Surprisingly, Paris, known as the "City of Love" had its divorce rates shoot up over 40 percent in recent years (it now has a divorce rate of 55 percent).
New York City is fourth, with an average marriage length of 12.2 years (America has an average length of only 8.8 years). Doha, Qatar, is last on the list with an average marriage length of only 5.5 years; some couples don't even consummate their marriage.
As depressing as these numbers might be, just keep in mind that in almost all these countries, less than half of marriages end in divorce. And there are lots of ways to make sure your marriage stays strong. So the odds are still in your favor.
