If your partner has a penis and produces sperm, the idea of "trying to get pregnant" sounds really fun at first. You get to have sex as often as you can, all with the knowledge that you're gonna be making a cute and tiny human in the near future.
But for some couples who keep pumping away and don't see results (i.e. babies) straight away, it must feel pretty disheartening. Well, scientists have figured out the average number of times people need to have sex to conceive. And let me tell you, it's quite a few!
Refinery29 reports online community Channel Mum asked 1,194 parents to divulge info about their experiences of falling pregnant—and apparently the average number of sex sessions it takes people to conceive is 78. That works out at around six months worth of trying before conception happens, with 13 times a month being the average.
According to the Mirror, the most common sexual positions for conceiving were missionary and doggy style. 10 percent of the couples said they amped up their sex by trying 15 to 20 times each month, and five percent did it daily.
Over 40 percent of couples said they really felt the pressure to fall pregnant, and 18 percent of women said it kind of started to become a bit of a chore rather than fun. And while one third of couples conceived within their first month of trying, a fifth had to wait between one and three years to fall pregnant.
