If you’re an avid K-drama fan and also a keen fashion observer, then you know very well that spotting a designer item in two shows isn’t anything new. In fact, such matchy-matchy instances have already happened in Crash Landing On You, A World of Married Couple, and Itaewon Class, among others—a sartorial cross-over, if you will! However, it is very rare for one item to make an appearance in not two, not three, but four K-dramas! Well, that’s exactly the case with a particular trench coat from Bottega Veneta, which we’ve seen on various leading ladies, who each styled the piece according to their unique tastes.
Son Ye Jin in Crash Landing On You
The coat made its inaugural appearance in every Filipino’s favorite K-drama, Crash Landing on You, specifically in Episode 12 when South Korean heiress Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin) made a covert visit to a sketchy neighborhood to strike a deal with a few hitmen. She finished off her look with Gentle Monster sunnies and Roger Vivier bag (which was also worn by Dr. Ji in A World of Married Couple).Continue reading below ↓Continue reading below ↓Recommended Videos
Kim Da Mi in Itaewon Class
Not long after, the coat reappeared in Itaewon Class as seen on Jo Yi Seo (Kim Da Mi) who glammed up her look with rose gold Tiffany & Co. earrings and necklace. Although this was after Jo Yi Seo had her hair makeover, the coat’s modern leather touch was still in line with her androgynous sense of style.Continue reading below ↓
Kim Hee Ae in A World Of Married Couple
Third time’s the charm! The BV coat was spotted yet again in A World of Married Couple—in Episode 15, to be exact—when Dr. Ji (Kim Hee Ae) and her son, Joon Young (Jeon Jin Seo), drove to their temporary hideaway home to take a breather. As usual, Dr. Ji kept it minimal with a few dainty pieces of jewelry.Continue reading below ↓
Jung Eun Chae in The King: Eternal Monarch
As if three instances weren’t enough, the trench coat found its way onto our screens last weekend during Episode 15 of The King: Eternal Monarch, solidifying its hero piece status. It was worn by Prime Minister Koo (Jung Eun Chae) when she walked into The Alley (yeah, that milk tea place we’ve been dying to try). She kept it sleek with a black turtleneck and trousers.Continue reading below ↓
So why is this trench coat such a K-drama staple to begin with?
Well, for one, it’s a modern interpretation of a classic trench coat, as it is spliced with diagonal leather paneling that adds an edge to the wool gabardine fabric. It’s a smart yet sophisticated piece, with the sharp details like the epaulettes, double-breasted closure, and belt, which you can leave undone to flaunt the coat’s loose shape. It’s also designed by Bottega Veneta’s current creative director, Daniel Lee, who is pretty much responsible for the brand’s revival.

If you want to cop your own piece, it’s available on Net-a-Porter—only if you can get your hands on it before everyone else does! Don’t be surprised if they sell out quickly, though. It’s the K-drama effect.
