The evening gown portion of Miss Universe 2017 was especially anticipated this year thanks to the commotion of *that* leaked gown. Rachel Peters surprised us when she appeared onstage *not* wearing gold. Instead, she dazzled in an all-silver look that matched her shoes and earrings.

Miss Thailand set herself apart by being the only one in the Top 10 to wear a dark color for her gown—and with a dramatic cape at that. Her midnight blue gown featured crystals sewn into the high-waisted skirt and the panels that draped over her chest. These panels then flowed into delicate layers of tulle, which softened the silhouette of the skin-baring number, thus giving it a romantic effect.

Miss Jamaica’s light yellow gown had a long cape that doubled as a train. Its mid-tone color nicely highlighted her skin tone, and the jewels of various hues—on her dress, bracelet, and drop earrings—complemented it without being over the top. As the first gown to be seen among the top 10, Miss Venezuela’s dress set the tone with a stark white serpentina skirt and an openwork top over a sweetheart-cut bodice. The look was minimally styled to maximum effect.

A high neckline, bold shoulders, a keyhole in the front and back—with tons of sparkle!—defined Miss USA’s look. Looks like champagne is a hit with these ladies and she wears it like a champ!

Miss South Africa’s gown was like second skin—if humans glistened instead of sweating! Her body-hugging long-sleeve dress showed off her curves, and she kept that neck lean and long by wearing her hair up. Slit placement was tricky, but it definitely paid off! Another trend we’re seeing: shoulder pads!

Miss Canada wore a champagne halter dress with a train of white—complemented by her nails in the same hue. The unconventional choice of colors shows you the right way to break fashion rules, i.e., do not mix metals. She topped off the maximalist look with shimmering door knockers on her earlobes.

Feathers were Miss Spain’s fashion story. While the fabric of her strapless gown shimmered, almost like a silvery pearl, the trims added an old-world charm to her look. If there’s a lesson to be learned here, it’s don’t be afraid to keep that drama for the back! Remember how she swished that flounce?

Miss Brazil’s red dress reminded us of the iconic scene from American Beauty. The appliqué looked like rose petals that concealed ~the goods~, but the body-skimming number ultimately showed off her slim hourglass figure.

The plunging off-shoulder was also one of the pageant’s biggest trends. Miss Colombia was the picture of a beauty queen as she wore the neckline of her silver beaded number. With the bodice so tight, arms squarely placed on her hips, and hair neatly worn away from her chest, the dress definitely highlighted her best assets.
