His name’s Zach Miko, and he’s the first model to be signed to Brawn, IMG Models’ new plus-size male division! According to WWD, Zach is six feet, six inches tall and has a 40-inch waistline.
Ivan Bart, president at IMG, said that he signed Zach because he was relatable while still able to represent fashion brands. “The body positive messaging and size diversity is something that’s relevant and something that continues to be on everybody’s mind. We have to extend the conversation for men,” he said.
Zach was also the first plus size male model to be featured in the “big and tall” clothing section of American retailer Target’s website—prior to him appearing on the site, the models Target used didn’t actually fit the description!
In an interview with People, Zach reveals that he struggled with self-esteem issues his entire life. “Being an attractive person was never something I thought of myself. I think as a man, you don't want to ever admit you have body image issues because it's not considered masculine or macho, but everyone struggles with it,” he shared.
And get this—he attributes his success to his wife! “I never would have had the confidence to go model or do anything if it wasn't for my wife,” Zach said. “She's who made me feel attractive for the first time. She made me feel okay with what I am.” Aaaaaw!
With this modeling contract under his belt, we’re excited to see just how far Zach will go—and how the fashion industry will react. Though stylish options are already available for plus-size women, men need just as many alternatives. Here’s hoping Zach and IMG Models can set the trend!
