If Ariel from The Little Mermaid was your favorite Disney princess growing up, you’re going to have a very difficult time resisting this trend. And even if she wasn’t, you’ll still be unable to—BECAUSE JUST LOOK AT THAT.
Time to ditch those ubiquitous flower crowns, CGs! These days, it's all about mermaid crowns, and 27-year-old Aussie Chelsea Shiels is kick-starting the revolution.
Like many of us, Chelsea spent her childhood wanting to be just like the Little Mermaid. In an interview with Cosmopolitan.com, she shared, “I'm a real beach bum. That was where my obsession with the sea and shells came from.”
Chelsea, who sells her handicrafts on her Etsy page, revealed that her crowns typically contain 20 to 50 shells, depending on the size of the crown. She only uses shells from beaches that have an excess of them, like in Hawaii, India, and Australia.
And, unlike many designers who begin the creative process through a simple sketch, Chelsea has a tendency to just go with the ~*flow*~. “I wing it with every single one,” she explained. “I never have a vision in my head before I start. I get inspiration from each different shell that I use and the colors and the contrast. It comes to me as I make it.”
We don’t know about you, but mermaid crowns are making us want to throw a beach party stat! Oh, and beach-bound brides, you might want to consider accessorizing your wedding gown with one of Chelsea’s designs. Just sayin’. *wink*
