Outfit snapshots can sometimes be a struggle to perfect (trust that behind every flawless OOTD is an agitated boyfriend and tons of rejected photos)—and swimsuit Instagrams even more so. Seriously, those things are intimidating!
One woman who has obviously nailed the art of posing in a barely there bikini—she does it for a living, after all—is Emily Ratajkowski. And while you would think, Duh, she’s a model, she’s supposed to look amazing in anything, Emily believes it’s actually simpler and more inclusive than that.
In an interview with ELLE.com, Emily shared her pro tips for looking good in a swimsuit photo. First, you have to be confident. “I know everyone hates when I say this, they think it's a cliché, but if you don't feel good in the bathing suit, you're not going to look good,” the Gone Girl actress said.
“Then of course there are angles, like lifting your butt up in a certain way so you have a nice arch in your back,” Emily added. “You definitely become very aware of the muscles in your stomach, because you're thinking, Is that angle flattering for [my] stomach?”
And while Emily acknowledges the fact she won out in the genetic lottery (“I don't have to work super hard and freak out over my diet’’), she also stresses the importance of balance and preparation. “For me, it's always about trying to consistently maintain a fit and body-conscious eating schedule,” she said.
In the end however, confidence wins out. “It's tricky, but the more confident you feel, the more likely you are to get a good picture,” Emily summed up.
