I remember in the early 2000s when platform thong sandals were everywhere. I had a pair in all neutral colors to match my baguette bags. I love the platform flip-flops coolness, plus the height boost they give me. They also looked so good with my baggy cargo pants and maxi apron dress. Yep, I lived through the era when the Y2K aesthetic was born, the trend Gen Z people have been obsessing over.
As I was browsing my IG Explore page and stalking the stylish influencers, I noticed that the obsession with chunky thong sandals seems to back. The micro trend has evolved from what it was in the 2000s: There are those with thick straps while some are even padded! They look super comfy as opposed to last year's popular shoe, sandals with skinny straps. The shape and straps of chunky sandals provide support for your feet with every stride.
Seeing their looks made me wish for a pair, too. Check out how they styled the Y2K footwear staple here!
Chelsea Valencia paired her white chunky thong sandals with patterned flare pants.
Ashley Colet wore it with a white bandeau top, cardigan, and a leopard print midi skirt.
Ida Anduyan put on an oversized white button-down and black chunky thong sandals to complete her minimalist look.
Toni Sia had fun and went for chunky platform thong sandals. She even has a lime green pair!
