Event invites are confusing. There's white tie, black tie, formal, semi-formal, cocktail—the list goes on and on. But girl, don't worry, because we're here to help! Here, a list of the most common dress codes, and how you can plan your best outfit EVERRR!
1. Black tie/Formal
While this is a formal event, a black tie affair doesn't necessarily mean you have to come wearing a floor-length gown. Short dresses that are either 1. sparkly; 2. embellished; or 3. metallic are more convenient alternatives, especially if you pair those with stilettos, not flats.
2. White tie
This isn't a common dress code in the Philippines, but just in case you do get invited to a white tie affair, you have to come in a full-length gown. Depending on the nature of the event, you're actually not supposed to bare your shoulders (or your cleavage!), so a shawl would be the perfect accessory. Oh, and since we're talking about accessories, getting all bling-ed out in jewelry is a must (but make sure you're not OA!). White tie events usually require women to wear elbow-length gloves, too.
Wear a dress that falls right below the knee. If you're not into that, pretty separates like a sexy pencil skirt paired with a dressy silk top will work well, too. Wear your blazer like a cape to complete your look.
Sure, pencil skirts and dresses with moderate hems are the basic uniforms for the working girl, but in case you get sick of those, try wide-legged trousers that barely touch the floor. Those pants go with anything, especially if you get them in black. They're not the easiest kind of pants to buy off the rack, so we suggest going to your favorite mananahi to get one done, stat!
5. Business casual
Treat business casual like corporate dressing, only you can actually wear a dress or a skirt that's (slightly!) above the knee. You might even get away with wearing a long-sleeved button-down shirt that shows a little bit of your cleavage. Yay!
6. Resort Chic
Think breezy—not sloppy—dressing. Go for maxi skirts or sun dresses in fun colors, and pair those with corked wedges or strappy sandals.
