Bela Padilla Sets Things Straight About Her Personal (And Work) Relationship With Senator Robin Padilla

Politics has once again put Bela Padilla in the spotlight, with the Internet questioning her stance amid ongoing political discussions—especially given that her uncle, Senator Robin Padilla, has been linked to recent developments.

The actress addressed the issue directly, clarifying her relationship with Robin and setting the record straight about her political stance.

"Growing up, my tito Robin was kind to me and my family. I will be forever grateful for this," Bela wrote. 

"But as our careers flourished and took different directions, with him entering politics, our personal encounters have become scarcer. Our ideologies also differed," the actress went on. 

In recent days, Bela has also been vocal about the unfolding developments in the Senate, including the change in leadership and the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Senator Ronald Dela Rosa. She shared her unfiltered thoughts on X (formerly Twitter).

However, her public statements also sparked speculation online about whether her influence had anything to do with Robin's casting in the upcoming action series Blood vs. Duty, previously announced by JRB Creative Production via social media. Bela is also part of the said project.

"I do not live close to my uncle. I haven't seen tito Robin until we shared the same call time last Friday. Before then, I saw him three years ago," Bela said. 

"My uncle being cast in the show was neither because of my influence nor my being part of the cast. I was cast in December. He is a recent addition to the show," she clarified

The actress further stressed that casting decisions were made solely at the discretion of the show's executive and supervising producers. She had no influence in any way with that, whether it was by her position in the industry or her personal connections.

She also drew a clear line between family ties and political beliefs, noting differences in ideology—contrasting her stance with the senator's alignment with the Duterte bloc. Still, she emphasized that despite differing views, mutual respect remains.

"My uncle’s political affiliation has nothing to do with my personal beliefs and convictions. We are related but we manage to agree to disagree," Bela emphasized. 

She ended her statement with clarity: "I remain grateful to his kindness, but I also maintain an independent and personal sense of being in charge of my career, choices, and convictions."
